The Pharmacy Professional’s Guide to: Creating Social Media Accounts for Self-Promotion

How Social Media Can Bring You More Job Opportunities

If you are looking for pharmacy work, especially further afield as a locum pharmacist, social media is your friend. You can shape your image as a pharmacy professional and attract the interest of pharmacies all across Canada.

If you’re looking to build a career in pharmacy, you should always strive to promote yourself as much as possible. It’s the 21st century, and you should use the tools that are available at your disposal. Using LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms are a great way to get your name out there and make valuable connections.

Let’s Get Social

As a Recruiter and Account Manager at RPI, I’ve often hired pharmacists who reach out to me on LinkedIn and Facebook, and I’ve often seen candidates stating the position and type of work they are looking for in their online statuses. You can also promote yourself by adding your skills, qualifications and your interests as part of your profile.

A Personal Example

Last month I was browsing through my LinkedIn when I stumbled upon a pharmacist with more than 10 years of pharmacy experience who was looking for a change – they wanted to work as a pharmacy manager in Dawson Creek, B.C.

The next day, as I was speaking to one of my Pharmacy clients in Vancouver, I learned that they were looking to hire a manager for one of their chain pharmacies in Dawson Creek.

Very soon, I reached out to the pharmacist on LinkedIn and set up an interview. The individual was eventually hired and as of today, he has started working there. All of this was possible because he used LinkedIn to professionally promote himself. Some people also use Facebook and Instagram to promote the work they do in their pharmacy. For example: a candidate that I know who works for Shoppers Drug Mart has many followers on both Instagram and LinkedIn. She promotes herself by displaying short videos and photos on social media, and has participated in workshops and community outreach programs in her pharmacy. Her pharmacy is well known in her local community and is loved by all in their small town. A large part of this is due to her self-promotion on social media.
